Executive summary

It was a privilege to serve as the lead designer on the impactful project of conceptualizing and designing the healthcare mobile app, MyHD. This app was supported and funded by leading hospitals and universities in Canada. It's designed to assist hemodialysis patients by providing crucial information and support, all through a user-friendly interface that's easy to navigate.

I led our team, which included a project manager and two engineers. We collaborated with eight kidney doctors and eighteen kidney patients from across Canada, each with different ages, backgrounds, and health conditions. Throughout the project, we ensured all internal and external stakeholders were aligned with our strategy.

We focused on a customized design sprint process to hone our feature set and strengthen our user-focused approach. We paid special attention to accessibility. This approach produced significant results: even senior users who required visual aids demonstrated a short learning curve. During usability testing, we achieved a success rate of over 92%. This project was well received, and the portfolio, prototype, and marketing deck we produced potentially helped the foundation secure an impressive $3.7M in donations.

Problem & Insights

Elderly hemodialysis patients are facing difficulties in accessing reliable medical information due to their lack of technological proficiency. This lack of access is exacerbating mental health issues such as depression, isolation, and anxiety related to the fear of mortality.

Goal

After intensive brainstorming and discussions with doctors and patients, the primary goal for MyHD was defined:

Step 2: Ideate

Step 3: Design & Prototype

Design System

Step 4: Refine

Final Project - Prototype is available when walk-thru

Step 5: Developer Handoff
